Alex leads our overall finance function and strategy, including managing our experienced in-house finance team. A member of our Investment Committee, she also works closely to support the work of our IR and investment teams.
I’m often asked whether my degree of “Land Economy” qualifies me to be a farmer and how on earth I ended up working in finance from there. The answer is that my passion lies in being a generalist, and my degree at university - which covered elements of economics, law, accounting, and the built environment - was incredible exposure to a variety of different skillsets. It’s also taught me the value of cross-pollination of ideas and working collaboratively with other experts in their field to understand how to apply best-in-class learnings to my own work.
Being a generalist is a passion I’ve pursued since leaving university. I started my career working for a single family office, with exposure to funds in the VC, private equity, public equity, and real assets space. Having experience as an LP into funds helps me understand how to best support our investors at Dawn, and was instrumental in shaping how I’ve approached my role within the finance and operations function at Dawn.
Changing careers from the LP to GP side of the table is also incredibly humbling; it still makes me eager to learn new skills and approaches. I believe we can continually innovate our industry and roles, and staying agile allows the finance and operations team to best support the investment team and build a true partnership with our investors.
I still love being a generalist, and while my sweet spot is still rooted in mathematics and economics, my role at Dawn is incredibly varied. There are truly no two days which are the same. I primarily focus on our finance function at Dawn, but I also work very closely with our investor relations, legal, and operations teams on a day-to-day basis.
Alex joined Dawn from Kindred Capital, where she was among the earliest team members and built up the firm’s finance and operations roles over a six-year tenure. Before Kindred, Alex worked as an Investment Associate at Alta Advisers.
She holds a degree in Land Economy from the University of Cambridge, and is a CFA Charterholder from the CFA Institute.
