Cameron is Dawn's Portfolio & Finance Associate, responsible for delivering the financial picture of the portfolio to the firm, our investors, and the companies we back.]
Growing up in Durban, South Africa, I wanted to be: a game ranger, a vet, a doctor, or a lawyer. Ultimately, I chose to be an accountant so that I could be a Dragon on Dragon's Den. That way, when someone pitched me commercial fusion energy, I could stop global warming and save the world.
With this in mind, I studied to be a Chartered Accountant at the University of Pretoria and spent five years in audit at Deloitte. As a lover of travel, history, and castles, I moved to Deloitte London, where I was the lead valuations audit manager on SoftBank Vision Fund 1.
Moving from South Africa to London was an eye-opener, and joining Dawn felt natural. I’ve learnt to read the value drivers in a business, which tells half the story. The people I’ve met in the office, the context from our fireside chats, and the board updates, tell the rest.
At the core of my role, I deliver the financial story of our portfolio to the people who need it: our investment team working with our companies, the investor relations team reporting to our LP’s, the finance team, and other members of the firm.
Over the last year, we’ve been re-thinking how we collect & use that data, and I’m excited by the prospect that we’re only scratching the surface of what it can tell us.
Outside of work, I enjoy a run along the Thames and through a new city, ideally with a friend or audiobook. I’ve recently dived headfirst into Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere universe.
